It is interesting that this was brought up, because it is something I have been wrestling with on and off with for a while.
When I go to Shul every week I put on a Kipah. I have had some ambivalence towards it because since I was raised in an assimilated household and didn't grow up observant at all, yet as a believer I knew this passage.
Without going into all my thoughts on it, and I still have some more thinking to do, I do have one observation at the moment.

I'll get a friend to come visit my congregation, or I will be in conversation with someone about where I worship, and they will say "But you men shouldn't have your heads covered!!" At this point I am a bit uncomfortable, because they are at least partly right. Yet, I have to point out to him that the passage talking about men covering their heads is an almost parenthetical (greek does not have parentheses, LOL) comment in a major statement on Women covering their heads as a sign of being under authority.

"So how many women in your congregation conver their heads? And of those who actually wear hats, how many do so specifically because it is a sign of authority and not just a nice fashion?"

That usually gets me a sheepish grin. Then I admit to him that at times I would rather sell confederate flags door to door in Brooklyn than try to sell this to most women in Evangelical Churches.

I still have deeply ambivilant feelings toward the Kipah, and I'll write more on that on another lunch break.

Let me give you some links that deal with this. I myself am wrestling with this issue now, especially since I am a Messianic Jew.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/headcovering/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/headcoverings/

http://expage.com/page/headcovering

http://members.tripod.com/~Lavenia/index.html

http://aboverubies.org/

http://expage.com/page/submissivewife

http://pilgrimpromo.com/ministries/headcovering.htm

That ought to keep everybody busy for a while.

Both Modesty and Headcovering are covered in depth in all these sites. My guess however is that few will click on these links, because it just may distrub people's prejudices and expectations, and most people don't like that.

PS Thanks for kicking this off Artie.
